MIKE
GUNN UNCUT
A
DRUGS AWARENESS AND EDUCATION PERFORMANCE FOR TEENAGERS
In
the wake of recent evidence of escalating drug abuse among teenagers,
Mike Gunn takes his anti-drugs show to schools around the UK
Mike
Gunn is one of Britain's most successful stand-up comics; headlining
at venues nationwide, he has made numerous radio and television
appearances and performed at festivals all over the world. However,
before this success, Mike was a registered heroin addict.
Premiering
at the Edinburgh Festival in August 2003 to rave reviews, Uncut
recounts the horrific truth of Gunn's real-life drug addiction.
A funny, and moving story of addiction told by "one of the
ten leading stand-ups in Britain" (The Independent), who's
been there and done it all. Uncut intimately explores Mike's life
before, during and after drug addiction. Informative and enlightening,
the show is full of hilarious anecdotes, magical observations
and truly unforgettable images.
Aided
by a preliminary Arts Council Development grant, Mike has developed
the show for a teenage audience and has already performed at a
handful of London schools as well as to health and education authorities
at an exclusive London showcase, to rave reviews.
"I
cannot commend the quality of Mike Gunn's show enough," says
Mrs Barbara Bloss, Head of Sixth Form at Haydon School in Eastcote,
North London, where due to popular demand, Uncut has now been
shown to three different groups of students. "The feedback
from both staff and students has been overwhelmingly positive,"
Bloss continues, "the content and style of Mike's presentation
was exceptionally polished, informative and entertaining. I would
recommend his show without hesitation to any school with a drug
awareness program."
Gunn
is now available to perform this show in schools, theater's and
arts centers, around the UK and is confident that Uncut can be
a far more effective tool for raising drug awareness in schools
than than the hitherto more conventional "anti-drug"
lecture.
